Dr. Darius A. Schneider MD, PhD
Diplomate, in Endocrinology and Metabolism
Dr. Schneider trained in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Heidelberg, in Germany, the University of California San Diego, and the University of Washington, Seattle. He trained with with some of the world's best endocrinologists - Peter Nawroth and Christian Kasperk in Heidelberg, Irl Hirsch, Dace Trence, Alain Chait, Brad Anawalt, and Anthony DeSantis in Seattle, and Daniel Einhorn in La Jolla - and gained extensive experience in managing all subtypes of diabetes, thyroid disease, parathyroid disease, Cushing's syndrome and disease, pituitary tumors, prolactinomas and fertility, pheochromocytoma and paragangliomas, endocrine tumor syndromes, hypertension, lipids, and bone.
Additionally, Dr. Schneider is an accomplished basic and clinical researcher. He completed a PhD with work in pancreatic islet transplantation - with Reinhard Bretzel in Giessen, Europe's first center for human pancreatic islet transplantation - and was subsequently awarded a Fulbright fellowship to undertake research in the field of diabetes and immunology in the lab of Matthias von Herrath at the prestigious "La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology", resulting in several influential research papers in high impact journals, and textbook chapters. Also, Dr. Schneider worked with Bill Hagopian at the "Pacific Northwest Research Institute" Seattle investigating risk scores for the prediction and correct diagnosis of diabetes subtypes as well as environmental factors in the development of Type 1 Diabetes (TEDDY study).
Dr. Schneider is co-investigator on several diabetes research studies, his research interests are focused on Type 1 Diabetes immunology, islet transplantation and technology (artificial pancreas).
In his practice, Dr. Schneider provide state-of-the-art clinical care for patients with diabetes and endocrine disorders including thyroid, adrenal, pituitary, gonadal disorders and bone. He brings broad clinical expertise along with technical skill in thyroid ultrasound / biopsies and the latest breakthroughs in diabetes technology.
His extensive research background in endocrinology and immunology provides gives Dr. Schneider a unique perspective and underpins his pursuit of improved understanding of and better treatments for endocrine and related diseases.
Dr. Schneider is double ABIM board certified in Endocrinology and Internal Medicine. Additionally, he holds the Endocrine Certification in Neck Ultrasound (ECNU) from the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE), the Advanced Training Certification in Type 1 Diabetes from the Endocrine Society / JDRF and the Advanced Training Certification in Bone and Mineral Disease from Columbia University.
